REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION AS A MANAGER, COACH OR ASSISTANT COACH
1.  Submit your request to the League by submitting your request and the signed forms,  printed from below, to any board member.

2.  Obtain a valid coaching certification by obtaining the Babe Ruth Coaches Certification. NYSCA certification will not be accepted !

All candidates submitting requests for such position will be presented for evaluation and review by the Board of Directors.  Please understand that the League receives many requests on an annual basis. While we make every effort to accept all the volunteer help that we can get, we reserve the right to deny any request for a position if the Board determines that a candidates qualifications, experience, coaching history or any other disqualifying factor present a liability to the League or a threat to the physical or mental welfare of the children of the League.

MANAGERS AND COACHES CODE OF ETHICS AND LEADERSHIP AGREEMENT  

  1. I understand that I am assuming a role of leadership in my community.  I realize that my actions and conduct may exercise great influence over the children entrusted to my care.  I understand that in assuming this role, my actions and conduct are subject to scrutiny by the community.  I will at all times conduct myself in a professional and ethical manner.
  1. I understand that I am dealing with children.  I must remember that their emotional and physical well being is my first priority, not winning.  I understand that this is a League designed to educate children on the fundamentals of baseball and to instill the values of sportsmanship, teamwork and fair play.  I will at all times take into consideration what is in the best interest of the children under my care.
  1. I understand that individual children are unique in their emotional and physical attributes.  I will do my best to make practices fun and challenging while keeping in mind the large range of skills that my players will posses.  I will conduct practices in a way so that every child has a chance to participate and learn.
  1. I will always attempt to maintain a safe playing environment for all players.  I will know basic first aid should the need arise to treat an injured player.
  1. I will set the example for my players on the field.  I will instill in my players the concepts of fair play and sportsmanship.  I will always show respect for other managers, coaches, umpires, players and spectators.  I understand that the League has a NO TOLERANCE policy in this issue and that any violation of that policy may result in disciplinary action by the Board of Directors to include reprimand, suspension or removal.
  1. I understand that I am expected to know the rules of baseball / softball so that I may properly instruct my players and develop their skills.
  1. I will provide an environment free of profanity, drugs, alcohol and tobacco use.  I will refrain from use of these while coaching my team.  I will remember that the League has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy on this matter.

I hereby acknowledge that I have read and understand the aforementioned Code of Ethics and agree to abide by it to the best of my ability.  I understand that it is my responsibility to question any statement that I do not understand, prior to signing this agreement, to receive clarification.  By signing this agreement, I promise to abide by the Code of Ethics  and Leadership Agreement while participating as a Manager / Coach in this League.

WESTERN CARTERET BASEBALL / SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION

STRIKE THREE DISCIPLINARY POLICY

I __________________________________________ understand that as a Manager, coach or  assistant coach of the Western Carteret Baseball / Softball Association, I am subject to the disciplinary policy set forth by the Board of Directors in accordance with the League By-laws.  I understand that the following guidelines will be used during the 2003 season. 

Letter of Warning

-         Issued to give notice to a Manager or coach that he / she has had a complaint filed by a parent with the Board of Directors about his / her conduct, coaching style or behavior and the parent does not want the Manager or coach disciplined formally.

-         Issued when the evidence cannot substantiate the elements of a Level I, II, or III offense.

(used to establish a record that the complaint was filed and investigated by the Board) 

Level I – Letter of Reprimand

-    Minor violations of Babe Ruth or League Rules or the Code of Ethics.

-         Failure to conduct scheduled practices on a regular basis.

-         Founded complaints suggesting inappropriate behavior by a Manager or coach.

-         Displaying any conduct that is considered inappropriate or un-sportsmanlike by the Code of Ethics, Babe Ruth Rules and Regulations, League By-laws or the Board of Directors.

-         Any other minor violations for which the Board of Directors substantiates a complaint.

 

Level II – Suspension (length at the discretion of the Board, not to exceed 2 games)

-         Major or repeated violations of Babe Ruth or League Rules or the Code of Ethics to include any violation of a zero tolerance policy for which the Board feels that a Level III punishment is not warranted.

-         Any finding of a subsequent violation for which a Level I punishment has already been issued during the same season.

-         Any occurrence of arguing with an umpire before, during or after a game.

-         Serious displays of inappropriate or un-sportsmanlike conduct while participating or attending a League sponsored event.  (Any instance where a Manager or coach is ejected from a game by an umpire shall be considered a serious violation)

 

Level III – Removal and 1 year suspension from League participation.

-         Any subsequent violation for which a Level II punishment has been issued during the same season.

-         Any finding by the Board that any Manager or coach has displayed reckless, dangerous or seriously negligent behavior while acting as an agent of the League.

-         Any finding by the Board that any Manager or coach has physically assaulted any other Manager, coach, umpire, parent, player or spectator.

-     Any finding by the Board that a second or subsequent violation of any zero tolerance policy has been committed, and the Manager or coach received a Level II punishment for the first violation at the discretion of the Board, then a Level III punishment is mandatory.

  

I have read and understand that I am subject to the above disciplinary policy while serving as a Manager or coach in this League.
